Hey, I’m Matt Galea, founder of Content Hype. I recently had the chance to sit down with Lisa Thomas on her podcast, Networking Success: Northside Notables, and chat about something I’m really passionate about—how podcasting and video content can make a huge difference for businesses. Today, I want to share some of those insights with you, using clear, simple language to explain why podcasting might just be the game-changer your business needs.

Why Podcasting Matters for Businesses

Let’s get one thing straight: podcasting isn’t just for influencers or people with a lot of time on their hands. It’s a powerful tool that helps businesses build trust with their audience. Podcasting lets you show your expertise in a way that’s approachable. Whether you run a small local business or a larger company, getting your voice (or the voice of your brand) out there through a podcast helps potential clients see you as a trusted expert in your field.

At Content Hype, we’ve been helping businesses develop strong content strategies that include podcasts. Why? Because you can repurpose podcast content in so many ways, making it a sustainable and cost-effective tool in your marketing mix. You can take a podcast episode and break it down into blog posts, social media clips, and more. In fact, that’s exactly what we’re doing with this blog post!

Repurposing Content for More Value

Here’s something that I’ve found super useful for my own business: repurposing content. When you record a podcast or a video, you’re creating a long-form piece of content. But it doesn’t have to stop there. You can chop it up into smaller pieces that work for different platforms—whether that’s Instagram reels, short blog posts, or snippets for LinkedIn.

One of the biggest challenges businesses face is keeping up with the demand for fresh content. But if you take one podcast episode and turn it into multiple smaller pieces, you’re saving time while creating more value. It’s not about reinventing the wheel every week—it’s about working smarter.

Why We Built a Podcast Studio in Moonee Ponds

When I started Content Hype, I realised there weren’t many local options for businesses to create professional content. Sure, there are great studios in areas like Richmond and Abbotsford, but I wanted to bring something closer to home for businesses in the Moonee Valley area.

That’s how the Content Hype Studio came about. It’s designed to be an affordable, accessible space where businesses can come in and create podcasts, videos, or even shoot social media content in peace. It’s not just for long, formal podcast sessions either—sometimes, clients come in just to record a few TikToks or reels. Having a dedicated space makes all the difference.

How to Get Over the Excuses and Start Creating

Let’s be real—we all make excuses when it comes to creating content. I’ve done it too. We tell ourselves we don’t have the right equipment, or we aren’t sure what to say, or we just don’t have time. But here’s the thing: you don’t need fancy equipment to get started. In fact, your smartphone camera and a decent microphone are enough to create something that works.

I always say that audio quality is key, especially for video content. People will put up with average visuals, but bad audio? They’ll switch off. So, if you’re going to invest in one thing, make it a good mic.

Stuck on Ideas? Ask Your Audience

Another big hurdle is figuring out what to talk about. If you’re like most business owners, you probably think, “What should I even make content about?” Start with your customers. What do they ask you before they decide to buy from you? What problems are they trying to solve? Answer those questions, and you’ll have a steady flow of content ideas.

Tools like ChatGPT are also great for helping you brainstorm. You can ask it to come up with questions or angles you haven’t thought of, which can really help if you’re stuck.

Failing Fast and Learning from It

One of the best pieces of advice I can give is to fail fast. Not every piece of content is going to be a winner, and that’s fine. The beauty of platforms like Instagram or TikTok is that you can test different things, see what works, and adjust. If something’s working, double down on it. If it’s not, move on and try something else.

The algorithms are your friend here. When you’re just starting out, not everyone is going to see what you’re putting out there, so there’s no harm in experimenting. Just get something out there, and improve as you go.

Don’t Forget About Written Content

While video and podcasting are great, written content still has its place. In fact, it’s often the foundation for everything else. You can turn a well-written blog post into a podcast episode, or break it down into smaller video scripts. If you’ve ever been interviewed, take note of the questions that were asked—they can be the starting point for your next piece of content.

The Power of Community and Networking

If you’re part of a local community, use that to your advantage. I’ve done a lot of work with local soccer clubs, and while they might not have huge marketing budgets, they’ve opened doors for me. Through those connections, I’ve met sponsors and local business owners who have become clients.

Being part of networks like BNI has also been a game-changer for me. It’s not just about getting referrals (although that’s a huge benefit). It’s also about having a community of trusted professionals around you who can offer advice, support, and a different perspective when you need it. If you’ve ever thought about joining a local networking group, I highly recommend it.

Final Thoughts: Start Creating

The main takeaway here is simple: start creating. Whether it’s a podcast, video, or blog post, get your content out there. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but it does need to be consistent. Use the tools and resources you have, don’t overthink it, and learn as you go.
